Loyola School Jamshedpur – Looking Forward to its Centenary Jubilee

Principal

Fr. Vinod Fernandes S.J.

Loyola School, Jamshedpur, has grown immensely during its glorious seventy-five years while implementing the Jesuit spiritual and educational characteristics, thus contributing significantly to the education of children in Jamshedpur. Our active and vibrant Alumni Association is a witness to the contribution of Loyola in the service of the Nation.

The recent conclusion of Platinum Jubilee Celebration was a time to be grateful for all the wonderful moments during the 75 years down memory lane, but at the same time to look forward with a greater vision and aspirations as we continue to live in these changing times of our complex world. Loyola will continue to uphold the humanistic character formation of our students, who grow to become men and women for others, especially caring for the needy. It will also prepare them to bring out their best as they wade through the technological and informational explosion. The School will inculcate 21st-century skills in our students as proposed by a well-known educator, Tony Wagner. They are:

1. Critical Thinking And Problem Solving
2. Collaboration Across Networks And Leading By Influence
3. Agility And Adaptability
4. Initiative And Entrepreneurship
5. Effective Oral And Written Communication
6. Accessing And Analyzing Information
7. Curiosity And Imagination

Loyola School will also try to implement ten key global identifiers of Jesuit Schools given in the document Jesuit Schools: A Living Tradition in the 21st Century—An Ongoing Exercise of Discernment (ICAJE, 2019), that Jesuit schools are:

1. Catholic, committed to in-depth faith formation in dialogue with other religions and worldviews;
2. committed to creating a safe and healthy school environment for all;
3. committed to global citizenship;
4. committed to the care of all creation;
5. committed to justice;
6. committed to be accessible for all;
7. committed to interculturality;
8. committed to being a global network at the service of the mission;
9. committed to human excellence;
10. committed to life-long learning.

We will make every effort to assist our teachers in creating a learning environment with adequate infrastructure that supports students to develop the above skills in order to address various concerns, such as human suffering and climate change; thus, we work together to build a just society where people learn to love and live in peace and harmony. Jai Loyola.
