The tarumitra club, which organises environmental awareness programmes and tree protection drives has taken the initiative to scientifically label the trees present around the Loyola campus.
Binomial nomenclature is a system of naming living organisms, introduced by Carolus Linnaeus who is known as 'The Father of Taxonomy'. It is a system accepted by biologists worldwide in which each organism is given a unique name. This allows the entire living world to be classified and studied in an organised manner.
The Tarumitra Club of Loyola School has therefore prepared labels exhibiting the scientific and common names of the trees in the school campus .On the 3rd of December 2024, these labels were put up on the trees, under the guidance of our Principal , Father Vinod Fernandes and Vice Principal Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri. The students were also briefed about their uses and significance. This initiative was taken up with the vision to make students aware about the large variety of flora distributed throughout the Loyola Campus through the system of Binomial Nomenclature.
