Loyola School Hosts Prestigious Thomas Paul Science Quiz, Celebrating Scientific Spirit
Jamshedpur, August 2, 2025 – Loyola School, Jamshedpur, today hosted its revered annual Thomas Paul Science Quiz in the Fasy Auditorium, bringing together the brightest young minds from across the city. The event, a vibrant celebration of scientific inquiry and knowledge, saw enthusiastic participation from 19 school teams in a keenly contested battle of wits. The quiz is held in loving memory of Sir Thomas Paul, a respected and deeply admired teacher at Loyola School. He joined the institution in 1984 and taught Physics and Mathematics to the senior-most students of Classes 11 and 12. Known for his clarity, dedication, and quiet passion for science, he left a lasting impact on all those he taught. Though his journey was cut short by a tragic road accident, the values he stood for continue to inspire generations. This annual quiz stands as a testament to his enduring legacy. The day’s proceedings commenced at 9:30 a.m. with a warm welcome from the Master of Ceremonies. This was followed by the auspicious lighting of the lamp by the esteemed dignitaries: the present Rector, Fr. Mike Raj; former Rector, Fr. K.M. Joseph; Principal, Fr. Vinod Fernandes; Vice Principal, Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri; and the Quiz Master, Mr. Deepak P. Kamath. Fr. Mike Raj, the present Rector of the school, led the gathering in a solemn prayer, after which Fr. Vinod Fernandes delivered the official welcome address, setting an encouraging tone for the participants. A highlight of the inaugural session was the introduction of the distinguished Quiz Master, Mr. Deepak P. Kamath. Mr. Kamath, an illustrious ex-Loyolean of the 1988 batch, currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Tata Steel Support Services Limited. Following the announcement of the results from a challenging preliminary round, the top six qualifying teams took to the stage for the final showdown. The quiz commenced, with Mr. Kamath expertly guiding the finalists through a series of intellectually stimulating rounds that tested their scientific acumen. The auditorium was alive with anticipation as the teams tackled complex questions, demonstrating remarkable knowledge and competitive spirit. After several intense rounds, the quiz ended and the winners were announced amidst loud applause. After an intense and thrilling finale, the team from Little Flower School emerged victorious, clinching the coveted first-place trophy. The runner-up position was secured by DBMS English School, while Jusco School Kadma put up a commendable performance to bag the third prize. Following the prize distribution, Quiz Master Mr. Deepak P. Kamath was felicitated by Fr. Mike Raj, Fr. K.M. Joseph and Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri for gracing the occasion. In his address, Mr. Kamath shared inspiring words, encouraging students to nurture their curiosity and pursue excellence in the field of science. The memorable day concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Jayanthi Sheshadri, who expressed gratitude to all participating teams, teachers, organizers, and dignitaries. The event came to a close with the singing of the National Anthem, marking a successful tribute to a beloved educator and a grand celebration of young scientific talent.
