On the 11th of November 2025, students and teachers of Loyola School, Jamshedpur gathered at Jesu Bhavan, Mango for the ground breaking ceremony of a Tarumitra Centre. Tarumitra is a nationwide students' organisation to promote ecological sensitivity in India.
The event was graced by Father Jerry Cutinha, Provincial of Jamshedpur; Father Michael Thanaraj, Rector of Loyola School; Father Ajit Soren, Superior of Jesu Bhavan; and Father Vinod Fernandes, Principal of Loyola School Bistupur, along with other Fathers, dignitaries, and members of the Loyola Alumni Association.
The programme included a prayer song followed by a ceremonial breaking of coconuts to invoke prosperity and harmony.
Father Michael Thanaraj, in his welcome address, emphasized the importance of caring for 'our common home' stating that we are not the owners of the Earth but rather its caretakers to preserve it for future generations.
Following this, Father Jerry Cutinha blessed the ground with a short prayer asking the almighty to shower his blessings on all those who are to be a part of the project. In accordance with the Ignatian belief that God's glory is seen in all of his creations, he said that the upcoming centre will serve as a means to work 'for the greater glory of God' or 'ad majoriam Dei gloriam'.
The establishment will serve as a centre for learning and educate students on the importance of biodiversity and sustainability.
20 saplings of different fruits were planted by the students and Fathers on the occasion.
The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks by Father Vinod Fernandes.
The event marked the beginning of a new phase in the movement's fight to protect and nurture our environment.
